He said: ‘My daughter Danielle is 24 and she has had diabetes since she was six.

‘They have always helped us and I wanted to give something back.

‘I thought this charity cycle ride was a good way to challenge myself and do something for them.

‘As a family we have seen how this chronic disease can affect people’s lives. We are also aware of the kind of research that Diabetes UK has done to help change the ways of living with diabetes.’

Kevin and his family are hoping the money will go towards important research into treatment for diabetes or even a cure.

The ride, on September 2, starts at Richmond and will finish at Paris 234 miles away.

Kevin added: ‘This is the first time I have ever tried to attempt a challenge like this.

‘I have cycled around the Isle of Wight as part of my training and I have cycled London to Brighton before but nothing with this sort of distance.

‘I am really happy with how my fundraising is going and I am confident I will reach the £1,400 I need to raise.’
