Portsmouth has been named one of the hardest cities in the UK to find love '“ if you're a man.

Population figures compiled by over-50s dating app Lumen show Portsmouth is the eighth hardest UK city to find a partner for men, based on the proportion of single men and women.

The data from ONS show there are 103 single men for every 100 single women.

Lumen looked at data from 348 local authorities in England and Wales, and found London was the hardest place for single men to find love.

England's capital city had 125 single men per 100 single women.

Newham came in second place (115 men) and Cambridge was third (112 men).

South coast neighbours Southampton also appears to be a difficult place for budding Romeos to find a partner, with 106 single men to 100 single women.

If any single men are interested in moving to help find love, Arun in West Sussex was named the joint-hardest place for women to find someone (70 single men to every 100 single women).

Rother in East Sussex and East Devon were also named the hardest places for women to find love.

Lumen co-founder Charly Lester said: '˜We know that sometimes it can feel like there are just no suitable singles out there for you '“ and we wanted to see what role something simple like where you live can play in your chances of finding love.

'˜The results are astounding '“ with City of London having 25 per cent more single men that women, and Arun, East Devon and Rother home to 43 per cent more single women than men.'
