Reporters to take on a marathon for charity

REPORTERS from The News will today be tackling a marathon to help fund a new project for the homeless.

Members from the paper’s editorial team will be running around the lake at 1000 Lakeside, North Harbour, as part of the Running for the Bus campaign.

It is all in support of a project to convert an double-decker bus into a new shelter for the homeless – complete with beds, showers, a kitchen and toilets.

So far, The News has raised more than £750 for the effort, which is being spearheaded by the founder of the Rucksack Project, Joanne Vines.

Reporters will be running in a relay around the lake, covering the equivalent distance of a marathon over the day.

Mark Waldron, editor of the paper, said: ‘What Joanne is doing is amazing and we’re really proud to show our support to her fantastic project.’
