Seafarers warned of HMS Queen Elizabeth's arrival in Portsmouth

MARINERS in Portsmouth are being warned of the possible arrival of the Royal Navy's new aircraft carrier into the city tomorrow morning.

The mighty 65,000-tonne vessel has been tackling her helicopter flight trials for the past month and a bit.

A shipping movement update released by Portsmouth’s Queen’s Harbour Master today has set a potential window of arrival for tomorrow morning, between 8.40am and 9.30am.

A spokeswoman for the Royal Navy said this was not a definite confirmation of Queen Elizabeth’s arrival back in the city.

She said the navy would confirm any arrival on the official Twitter account of Her Majesty’s Naval Base Portsmouth.

If it happens, it will be the third time the future flagship has sailed back into her home port.

During her last mission at sea the 280m vessel had been conducting helicopter landing and take-off trials on her expansive four-acre flight deck.

She also paid a visit to Gibraltar.

Queen Elizabeth is expected to tackle flight trials of the state-of-the-art F-35B Lightning II stealth jets, off the east coast of America, in November.
