On the other hand, there is hardly any difference between the second set of two.

Both of the old photographs of High Street, Cosham, were taken in January 1976 and come from the extensive collection of Philp Pyke, of Westwood Road, Hilsea, who also took the ‘now’ pictures showing how much, or little, has changed in the intervening 40 years.

The gloomy photo on the right is of the top of High Street before the complex which now houses Tesco and Lloyds Bank had been dreamed of, let alone pedestrianisation.

The other two are at the opposite end of the same street, adjacent to the level crossing.

There, the shop names may have changed but the parade is instantly recognisable.
