Thousands queue to step aboard Nelson's flagship

In days past when we had a navy that ruled the world's waves, HMS Victory was called '˜the cathedral of the Royal Navy'.

In this magnificent photograph taken during Navy Days in 1930, thousands of people can be seen trying to board Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar.

Let us not forget that the commander of HMS Victory at that battle was Captain Thomas Masterman Hardy.

To the bottom of the photograph can be seen submarines and all appear to be open to the public.

Where the Mary Rose museum now stands are sheds and warehouses.

I wonder how long it will be until Victory is rerigged and on display once again as a proper ship?
