Three Amigos gearing up to cycle from John o' Groats to Waterlooville

Kev Jackson, Stuart McGeechan and Andy Tiller will ride more than 840 miles from John O’Groats in Scotland to Waterlooville.

Kev, 50, said the trio, known as The Three Amigos, were ‘buzzing’ for the eight-day ride, which is in aid of Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal.

He said: ‘We wanted to do it because we could! It’s going to be tough, but we’re not disillusioned. We just have to work together and we will do that as a team.’

Kev, of Robin Gardens, Waterlooville, took up cycling a few years ago after a football injury. He previously teamed up with Stuart, 50, and Andy for the Three Peaks challenge in Wales.

Kev said: ‘We learned a lot from the Three Peaks and I think we will be far better prepared this time.’

Setting off from the UK’s northern-most tip on September 17, the cyclists will be welcomed back at The Rainbow pub in Milton Road on September 25.

Along with friend Steve Moss, The Three Amigos have previously raised £15,000 for Macmillan Cancer Research, but for this challenge, Kev wanted to ‘keep things local’ and close to his heart.

After his partner was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2012, Kev chose Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal, set up in memory of Hannah Westbrook, a Waterlooville girl who died of the uncommon cancer in 2004, aged eight.

The pals hope to raise £2,000 for the appeal, having already collected nearly £1,500.

Kev said: ‘The generosity just astounds me.

‘We would have cycled to Land’s End, but then I thought it would be nice to finish at home. I probably won’t see my bike for a few months afterwards!’
