Boat towed to shore by Gafirs after suffering engine failure

A YACHT taking on water in the Solent had to be towed to shore by a lifeboat.

Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (Gafirs) attended the incident after the 51ft vessel suffered engine failure.

Gafirs coxswain Pete Byford said: ‘My crewman quickly rigged a towline and found there was around 75cm of water in the yacht and that the engines had failed.

‘We towed the casualty vessel back to Cowes Harbour where the harbour master took over and assisted in getting the stricken yacht safely alongside.’

The incident happened at 2.30pm on Saturday.
