Highways England says 170 miles of roadworks to be lifted for August bank holiday

Highways England says it will remove the roadworks by early Friday morning on August 26 to help people get away on bank holiday journeys with as little disruption from roadworks as possible.

The agancy says almost 98 per cent of England’s motorway and major A roads will have no roadworks over the August bank holiday period.

‘Nationally we are removing 373 miles of roadworks: 179 sets of roadworks, totalling 319 miles, will be completed and 22 sets suspended, totalling 54 miles ahead of the holiday.’ said a spokesman.

‘The government is investing £15billion to deliver the biggest upgrade to motorways and major A-roads in a generation. Building new roads and creating smart motorways that keep traffic moving even in the busiest periods will cut congestion – and Highways England is taking action to reduce delays over the bank holiday break.’

Highways England has published a map showing the locations of lifted and completed schemes.
