Hoax caller reports seeing woman stuck in the mud

EMERGENCY services had their time wasted a after a hoax caller reported seeing an elderly woman stuck in the mud.

The person rang 999 at around 2am yesterday.

Crews from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, as well as Portsmouth Coastguard and Hill Head Coastguard and police, were sent to the incident at Milton Lock in Portsmouth. However on arrival they discovered the it was a malicious call.

A spokesman from the Coastguard said: ‘Incidents like these are a waste of our time and mean we do not have the resources should they be needed for a real emergency.’
