Paramedics among those taken to hospital in chemical drama

Part of a road remained closed today after a chemical incident in which several people were taken to hospital.

Two paramedics were among those needing treatment after the drama.

It started at around 7.30pm last night when emergency service rushed to St Mary’s Road at Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Police said it was a ‘hazradous’ chemical incident but gave few details.

They confirmed that members of a family living at the property were taken to St Mary’s Hospital at Newport for checks and were discharged.

Two members of the first ambulance crew on the scene were also taken to hospital and discharged.

People were advised to avoid the area.
