Southsea driver is named after fatal crash on the A3(M) at Purbrook

A DRIVER who died after crashing with a motorway barrier has been named.

Oliver Walton, 25, of Beach Road, Southsea, was the driver of a silver Vauxhall Astra which collided with a barrier on the A3(M) northbound at 5.45am on Tuesday.

He suffered serious chest injuries and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital but died a short time later.

A spokeswoman for the police said: ‘Officers are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances of the collision and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed it or saw the vehicle prior to the incident.’

It is understood Mr Walton’s car crashed into the barrier separating the slip road, at Purbrook, with the main carriageway.

Roads policing officers shut the road for more than four hours to investigate the cause of the crash.
