Phone problems for police mean calls not answered

A NATIONAL problem with the 101 telephone number affected calls to Hampshire Constabulary and Sussex Police on Saturday.

Around three-quarters of the country’s forces were affected for around three hours.

The fault, which did not affect the 999 emergency service, was resolved at 2pm.

Callers using the 101 number were getting a ringing tone and no indication that there was a fault, but the calls were not received by call handlers.

Unsuccessful callers were advised to try again.
