Portsmouth Great Western Railway trains to be disrupted for over month due to landslip

THE city’s rail users are being warned that Great Western Railway services face disruption for over a month.

Trains on the Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central route are among those affected by a recent landslip.

The incident happened between Salisbury and Romsey and all lines are closed, Great Western Railway (GWR) has said.

GWR have announced today that it will not be running a ‘direct train service’ between Romsey and Portsmouth Harbour.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day on March 31.

On its website GWR says: ‘Affected customers are advised to travel with South Western Railway between Romsey and Portsmouth Harbour.

‘Due to a landslip between Salisbury and Romsey all lines are blocked.

‘Engineers on site at the landslip and have confirmed there is significant damage to the embankment, with substantial repair work needed.

‘It is expected that it will take up to two months to fully repair the railway. We are not currently able to run trains between Salisbury and Romsey.

‘South Western Railway are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice.’

GWR is still operating trains between Portsmouth Harbour and Brighton.

There will be a replacement bus service between Salisbury and Southampton Central in both directions until further notice.
