WATCH: Archive video shows Queen Mother opening Royal Naval War Memorial at Southsea

It has dominated the western end of Southsea Common for more than 60 years.

The Royal Naval War Memorial is visited by thousands of people each year, and a vast crowd - including 16,000 relatives of sailors killed in action - were there to see it officially opened by the Queen Mother in 1953. The archive video is from the British Pathe library.
