Watch: Strictly star Robin Windsor visits Portsmouth and puts dancers through their paces

The 36-year-old Latin and ballroom dancer held a beginners’ class at The Royal Beach Hotel in Southsea.

There were plenty of smiles – and the odd foot being trodden on – as beginners were put through their paces by the professional.

In the space of an hour, he had taught them steps to the Cha Cha and the Waltz.

Husband and wife Mark and Romy Jones, from Fareham, decided it was time to learn some moves after having a go at dancing on a cruise two years ago and realising they needed more practice.

After the session, Romy, 57, said: ‘It was fun. I learnt a lot more than I thought I would.

‘We have learnt enough to build on it.’

Mark, 59, said: ‘He was an extremely good instructor.

‘The most challenging part was trying to co-ordinate your brain with your feet. Now we are looking for a class to join.’

The event was organised by Michaela Simkins, 42, from Horndean, whose 11-year-old son George Dunmore dances at Scarlett Rose School of Dance in Portsmouth.

She wanted to bring a male role model down to Portsmouth to encourage the children to develop their talents.

The school’s founder, Bev Craig, 36, from North End, got to partner Robin in the dance session.

She said: ‘It was lovely.

‘He’s a very good leader and how he teaches.

‘I am actually learning quite a lot from him – he teaches a little bit different to me.’

After the beginners’ dance session, Robin attended the presentation evening for the school and handed out awards to around 50 young people, ranging from three to 19.

Robin said he had really enjoyed the day.

He told The News: ‘I love teaching beginners.

‘What people don’t realise is a lot of people don’t necessarily want to come, but once they get here they have the time of their lives and just keep coming.

‘It’s a great way to keep fit.’
