Shoppers in Cosham high street were left wading through inches of water after the intense bursts on Saturday afternoon.

Other properties across the area were also affected as drains struggled to cope with the amount of water.

Sharon Trotter, of Miller Drive, Fareham, was one of those affected.

She said: ‘The rain came so quickly the road drains couldn’t cope, and ended up gushing down a few residents’ driveways.

‘Luckily no water came into any of our houses.

‘The drains eventually managed to deal with the water in the road.

‘However, the gardens are still under water at the minute. Got to love a British summer.’

A drier day was expected today, with rain returning tomorrow.
