Portsmouth experiences one of the coldest nights of the year

PORTSMOUTH experienced one of the coldest nights of the year last night as temperature's dropped below -4 degrees celsius.

The city was embroiled in a bitter cold last night with temperatures slowly plummeting into the minuses after 10pm and hitting the lowest of -4.1 degrees celsius just after 4am this morning, according to the Met Office.

Benson in Oxfordshire was hit with the lowest in the country with a reading of -9 degrees celsius.

Widespread frost is expected to linger across the Portsmouth area for most of the day with maximum temperatures reaching 8 degrees celsius.

Temperatures are not expected to be as cold tonight with the minimum temperature for the area to be around 0 degrees celsius.
