Storm Dennis: Coastguard team warn of the dangers of ignoring road closures

The coastguard team at Stokes Bay and Hill Head posted a video showing their team driving through treacherous conditions on the seafront to help drivers who had found themselves stuck.
Road closures are in place along some seafront roads along the south coast with huge waves and surface water making driving conditions near impossible.

Hide AdThe video shows the rescue team’s vehicle making its way along the closed road, while waves smash onto the windscreen making visibility very difficult.
They also warned of stones being thrown by the waves, potentially damaging windscreens and wing mirrors.
The rescue team tweeted: ‘We have been assisting stranded vehicles who have been ignoring road closures signs or wading through 2ft of water at Stokes Bay & Hillhead.
‘This is what we had to go through to assist one of them. These waves can have stones etc in them.’

Hide AdMore than 20mm of rain fell in some areas overnight as Storm Dennis caused widespread travel disruption across Hampshire.
Train services have been delayed or are running at reduced speeds, and some Wightlink and Hovertravel crossings were cancelled yesterday.
Several fallen trees have also been reported.
Flood alerts are also in place as river levels rise, with residents being told to prepare for possible flooding.
