This is how strong winds will get in Portsmouth as Storm Diana hits


Storm Diana brought gusts of over 40mph to the region today (November 28) as well as heavy rain.Â
The adverse weather conditions caused ferry journeys between Portsmouth and the Channel Islands to be cancelled.Â

Hide AdCondor Ferries cancelled the 9am service from the city to Guernsey, the 9am sailing to Jersey, the 5.20pm sailing from Guernsey to Jersey and the 9.20pm sailing from Jersey to Portsmouth because of the windy conditions brought by Storm Diana.Â


In a statement the company said: '˜We are sorry your sailing has been cancelled because of Storm Diana in the English Channel and forecasted windy conditions.'Â
The stormy weather also caused the Cosham Christmas light switch on to be cancelled by the council.Â
Portsmouth City Council said that the event, which was planned to take place from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesday evening, had to be called off because of the high winds and rain.Â

Hide AdWith the council unable to set up the stage on which the entertainers, set to include Theatre Arts Starlight and Stardust students, were due to perform as a result of the conditions.Â
Instead the Cosham Christmas lights were just switched on with no fan fare.Â
Portsmouth has managed to escape the worst of Storm Diana, with yellow weather warnings issued for the western parts of the country, Scotland and on parts of the South Coast for today and tomorrow.Â
The warning for windy conditions included parts of the New Forest and was in place from 12pm on Wednesday until 3am on Thursday.Â

Hide AdWhile the Portsmouth area is outside the weather warning, the city is set to experience strong winds again today. With gusts of over 50mph being forecast by the Met Office.Â
The winds will be strongest at 9am today when wind speed will reach 52mph, according to the forecast, they will then tail off throughout the morning down to 31mph at 3pm.Â
The wet weather is set to continue this weekend, with heavy rain being forecast for Portsmouth as December begins on Saturday.Â
