Security staff assaulted during trouble on first night of Portsmouth Freshers’ week

Police were called to Portsmouth city centre after security guards were assaulted on the first night of freshers’ week. 

A raft of new students arrived in the city over the weekend to start at the University.

Yesterday (September 16) also marked the start of Portsmouth Freshers’ week – a series of club nights that will run throughout the coming days.

Hampshire Constabulary were called to Guildhall Walk by door staff in the early hours of this morning following trouble between 1am and 1.38am.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: ‘Door staff detained three people following assault on security and wanted them removed from the area.

‘There were no arrests in regard to that.’
