Batting collapse proves so costly as Hampshire lose at Glamorgan

The visitors were always on the backfoot after being bowled out for 141 runs in 19 overs by the hosts.

Their bad batting raises concerns.

James Vince at the start and Shahid Afridi and Adam Wheater provided the only resistance on a beautiful sunny evening.

Vince made his mark early on with 27 runs off 22 balls striking four fours.

But he was late getting onto a full ball from Michael Hogan.

Michael Carberry had already gone as the visitors ended the power play on 48 for two.

Adams (7) soon followed and Sean Ervine’s miserable run continued, just one run in his three T20 innings, when he looped up a simple catch.

Wheater (39) and Liam Dawson steadied the ship with a partnership of 35 runs in 4.2 overs.

But the former was stumped, stepping out of his crease.

Afridi wasted little time in making his introduction to the game.

He blasted about the bowling, cracking three fours and two sixes in a quick-fire 32 runs off 20 balls.

He was caught in the 18th over trying to hit over deep mid-on.

The home side then brought world class pace bowler Dale Steyn back into the attack and he polished the innings off with three wickets.

Hampshire needed an early breakthrough if they were to stand any chance and Vince provided it

He took a superb stretching catch above his head at mid-on to dismiss Jacques Rudolph off the bowling of Gareth Andrew.

David Lloyd followed quickly lbw to Gareth Berg but that was as good as it got for the visitors.

Glamorgan returned to the attack by crashing 18 runs off Darren Sammy’s first over and Aneurin Donald continued his barrage by putting another massive hit into the river.

Donald (55) took the hosts to 91 for two by smashing Afridi straight back over his head for another big six out of the ground.

Dawson eventually removed Donald but along with Colin Ingram (43) Glamorgan had plundered 94 runs in just over eight overs.

Though the visitors took a couple more wickets, Glamorgan reached their target with 23 balls to spare.
