Waterlooville's decorated amateur Mark Chamberlain is out to achieve big things in boxing

Waterlooville's national elite champion steps into the paid ranks for the first time as he makes his pro debut in London next month.

Chamberlain will be joined by new stablemate Ryan Garner, as the Wayne Batten-trained talent steps out at the Brentwood Centre on December 15 against an unnamed opponent on the BT Sport-televised card.

The 19-year-old turned down the opportunity to fight at the Manchester Arena on the huge Carl Frampton v Josh Warrington bill, in favour of an outing closer to home soil.

Chamberlain is set to box in the lightweight division as he aims to carry the success of a decorated amateur career forward.

Turning over as a pro at a relatively young age means the former Team Wiseman man is refusing to hurry to make his mark in the boxing big leagues.

But Chamberlain is adamant he has everything needed to go all the way in the sport, after signing a five-fight promotional deal with Frank Warren.

He said: '˜It's exciting now the ball's rolling. I can't wait.

'˜There was talk of me boxing at the Manchester Arena on December 22.

'˜But I wanted my first fight to be as local as possible, though.

'˜So I will have a coach going up to support me

'˜I'm definitely excited and I think I've got what it takes to make an impact.

'˜I know I've got to learn, though, and I don't want to rush things.

'˜I've got a good pedigree as an amateur and I believe I've got what it take to make it to the top.

'˜I've got Frank Warren and there's the deal with BT Sport and BoxNation.

'˜So I'm confident I've got the right people behind me to help me.

'˜I want to make a statement now and then move towards a big 2019.'

Tickets are available for Chamberlain's professional debut priced £40, £100 and £150 (VIP with free bar). Coach tickets are also available. Contact 07891 201181 for details.
