Adam May ready to fight for Portsmouth place after rejecting loan moves

The News understands Lee Bradbury tried to take the centre-midfielder to Westleigh Park '“ but the Blues academy product rejected the offer.

May, inset, has slipped down the Fratton Park pecking order following the summer arrivals of Tom Naylor and Ben Thompson. 

The academy product has made just one appearance this season '“ coming in the 4-0 Checkatrade Trophy victory over Gillingham last week '“ and hasn't been included in a single League One match-day squad. 

Kenny Jackett confirmed there have been enquires from two National League clubs for May.

Both were rebuffed by the 20-year-old. Instead he wants to remain at Pompey and try to work his way into his manager's plans.

However, Jackett admitted May could move to a National League side on a temporary basis if he remains on the periphery at the Blues.

The boss said: '˜We had some enquiries from two National League clubs.

'˜But it's not for Adam at the moment.

'˜It's not at all where he wants to be.

'˜He feels that he wants to stay here, compete for his place and be closer to where the group is.

'˜Obviously then if he doesn't get game-time maybe later on he could take that option on '“ whether that be the Hawks or another National League side.'

May made 18 appearances for Pompey last term, with 13 of those in League One.
