Baffins Milton boss claims Wessex League have ‘panicked’ in switching cup tie to Brockenhurst

Baffins Milton Rovers manager Steve Leigh is disappointed his side have been deprived of home advantage in their Wessex League Cup tie against Brockenhurst.

The game has been called off four times at the PMC Stadium because of a waterlogged pitch and the league have now ordered them to play the game at Brockenhurst this Saturday.

Leigh accepts playing the tie away from home makes it more difficult for Baffins to defend the silverware.

'We have had four attempts to stage the game at our ground,' said Leigh.

'It is a midweek competition but because Brockenhurst have had problems with their lights we are having to play it on a Saturday with a 2pm kick-off.

'I think the League have panicked and are just desperate to try and get games on.

'Obviously we are disappointed to lose home advantage.

'Their playing surface isn't great either

'It was great to win the competition in my first year and we would love to retain the trophy.

'We are still in this cup and the Portsmouth Senior Cup.

'With little to play for in the league, the cups are something we are taking very seriously.'

Baffins are due to travel to Fareham Town for a Wessex League Premier Division derby on Tuesday night.

But, once again, it seems as though the weather could intervene.

Fareham's pitch was underwater at the weekend and the match could be postponed for a second time - it was initially called off on December 28.

Leigh believes if the game does go ahead, it could be a test of endurance for both teams on a heavy pitch.

'It is unlikely to be pretty with both teams having to dig deep to get a result,' he remarked.

'You won't be able to get the ball down and play.

'As a result, it won't be a game for the faint-hearted.'

Fareham still have Connor Messenbird suspended as they bid to complete a double, having won 3-2 at the PMC Stadium back in early August.
