The former Locks Heath player fired a hat-trick on only his third start for Meon in a 4-2 Division 1 victory at Eastney Barracks.

It was Infinity’s first HPL loss since April 2019 and ended a run of 44 league games without defeat – easily the longest in HPL history and spanning three different seasons.

That incredible run encompassed 24 matches in 2019/20 and 13 games the following season - the two pandemic-wrecked campaigns.

After returning to the HPL this season, following their withdraw from Wessex 1 earlier in the year due to a lack of a ground, Wayne Grant’s side had won six and drawn one of their opening seven league fixtures.

Of those 44 games, Infinity had won 34 of them and drawn just 10.

One of those victories was a 5-2 success against Meon in August, helped by a Harry Osman treble.

But it was Boggild who was the star of the rematch.

He opened the scoring with a header inside the opening five minutes, before Andrew Powell levelled from a free-kick.

Boggild restored Meon’s lead just before the half-hour mark, but Jamie White equalised - again from a free-kick.

Jagit Singh put the hosts ahead for a third time just after the hour before Boggild completed his hat-trick.

Boggild joined Meon after his son signed up for one of the club’s junior teams. He had made just three first team outings for Locks last season, two of them coming off the bench.

Meon boss Bickram Singh said: ‘It was a really good win.

‘I thought we were good against them when we lost 5-2, we just didn’t take our chances that day and they did. They capitalised on our mistakes.

‘I said to the lads beforehand that they needed to believe in themselves, and they delivered. We ground out the result we deserved.’

Singh added: ‘Promotion is the aim - that was the aim last season but it didn’t happen.

‘I haven’t applied any pressure on the lads, I’ve just told them to enjoy it and work hard.

‘We have some very good players and there’s interest from others who have played at a higher standard.

‘The problem is getting a whole squad of 16 free of injuries or holidays.’
