Bone Idle Gossip: Vote for your favourite all-time Pompey midfielder

THROUGH this column and the one I write in the Pompey programme, I’ve already had readers voting for their favourite all-time Blues defenders, wingers and keepers this season - writes Steve Bone.

For those who missed these rather unscientific but whoppingly-good-fun polls, Noel Blake was your No1 defender ahead of Linvoy Primus (and Sylvain Distin in third), while Vince Hilaire (1st) and Alan Rogers (2nd) rather neatly gave us a right and a left-winger in the top two spots in the wide men’s vote.

Then, in a saga lasting almost as long as the ‘Who killed Lucy Beale?’ one that EastEnders have been stringing out, and with about the same amount of suspense, Alan Knight was crowned as your favourite all-time Pompey keeper.

With only just over two months of the season to go, there’s no time to waste – and so today I begin the search for your favourite Blues midfielder.

The key word is ‘favourite’. I’m not necessarily looking for the best. I want to know which midfield maestro or enforcer you recall most fondly or most enjoyed watching.

After two or three weeks of voting, I’ll reveal the voting stats and add the top two to the fast-forming team of PFC faves.

It’s interesting that players from the 80s have dominated in the three polls so far. That maybe suggests the majority of my gaggle of readers are probably of not-dissimilar age to me and spent their formative years watching the wonderful team(s) put together by Alan Ball in his first spell as Pompey boss.

That may also give clues to midfielders who’ll get a mention, though I’d expect a wide selection from the old championship-winning days through to 2015 to be nominated.

So then, favourite midfielder and why. Go.
