Defending champions Burrfields are back on top of the Mid-Solent League.

They took advantage of Pompey Dynamos’ 3-2 loss against Mob Albion with a 10-2 hammering of Wickham Dynamos at Warblington School.

Burrfields recovered from a dreadful start - conceding a penalty and having right-back James Graham booked in the first minute - to run out comprehensive winners.

Brian Kirby’s men hit back to lead 5-1 at the interval, a scoreline matched in the second 45 minutes as Burrfields netted double figures for the second time in three weeks - having previously caned their reserve team by the same score.

Due to an injury crisis, Kirby could only name one sub - and that was Daniel Jones, a player he had never met until the day of the game and who hadn’t played in almost two years!

Jack Palmer led the latest spree with a hat-trick with strike partner Laurie McIntosh - a summer signing from now defunct Wymering - netting twice. Themis Chatziantoniou (2), Jordan Shuttleworth (penalty), Harrison Holbrook and debutant Jones - who came on at half-time and scored with a header - were also on target.

The only negative for Burrfields was the loss of Toby Funnell 10 minutes from time with a nasty knee injury.

Kirby also signed Sam Stokes from Wymering in the summer, but he picked up a bad knee injury in the opening game of the season and has not played since. He could be back in training in the next fortnight.

Burrfields are a point ahead of Meon Milton, but have played a game more. Meon are the only side in the league still boasting a 100 per cent record - they trounced Portchester Rovers 7-2 to record their fifth straight win at the weekend.
