Cambridge v Pompey: Gaffer for a day

Pompey were not great last week against Notts County – in the second half they never even got going.

The biggest error was never being in control of the game. Amine Linganzi was the only one who looked capable of keeping hold of the ball.

For that reason I would recall Danny Rose in place of Michael Doyle – and that would be my only change to the team.

Rose controls the game a lot better, and while Doyle may be able to break things up, I believe we will be allowed more of the ball anyway at Cambridge United.

Doyle hasn’t quite hit the heights he did last season.

Sometimes when Rose has been brought off, I felt Doyle also warranted being substituted.

Rose has scored a couple of goals this season, including at Plymouth when he was very, very good after coming on. He calmed us down, knocked the ball around well and kept us playing.

I know there have been defensive issues recently but I wouldn’t alter the back four.

Tom Davies really gets into the opposition, he is a physically player and we are going to need his presence to win a lot of headers.

Besides, if we keep making changes to the defence it is one of the reasons why we do concede goals. We need to settle for a back four and let them mould together.

So I would stick with Davies alongside Christian Burgess at the heart of our defence.

I think this will be a low-scoring game and can see it goalless at half-time.

I’m going for Bennett to score. He has been on good form recently, and while people give him stick at home he has played better away at Plymouth and Orient. Overall, a 2-0 win to Pompey.
