Carter vows to tackle ill-discipline at Moneyfields

The manager felt it was time to act after having four players sent off in the past two games.

Moneyfields maintained their three-point lead at the top with a comfortable 4-0 win at Fawley.

However, Carter will be without six of his first-choice players for the crucial clash with title rivals Blackfield & Langley next weekend.

‘We have got more disciplinary points than league points and that isn’t acceptable,’ said the boss.

‘I told the players we cannot have any more of it. It will end up costing us.

‘If we are to stand any chance of winning the league our discipline has to improve.

‘Everything is okay when we are winning but once the rub of the green goes against us we tend to lose our heads. You are always going to mistime the odd tackle but there is no excuse for mouthing off at the referee when decisions go against you.

‘We cannot afford to go into games without key players, particularly when we take on our closest rivals.

‘It is a mentality at the club we need to change.’

There were few discipline problems at Fawley as the visitors overcome difficult conditions to win easily.

A small pitch, torrential rainfall and playing against league strugglers represented a banana skin for the league leaders.

On this occasion, though, Carter’s side showed the necessary discipline to avoid any slip-ups.

Two goals in the opening 15 minutes set them on their way.

Nathan Paxton broke down the left before cutting into the area to score at the second attempt after his first shot was blocked.

Jake Raine then fired a dipping, curling 20-yard volley into the top corner to extend the lead.

Raine almost repeated the feat a few minutes later but another long-range effort rebounded off the crossbar.

After the break Moneyfields maintained their supremacy and added further goals by James Guthrie and Ash Tattersall.

Guthrie struck in the 65th minute guiding the ball in at the near post.

Tattersall, sent on for his debut as a substitute, then sealed the win.

The former Fareham Town player rounded the keeper before slotting the ball into the net on 80 minutes.

The visitors missed further chances but had done more than enough to secure the points.

‘It was important to go out there with the right mindset and I felt we did that,’ added Carter.

‘We had to put a shift in with all the players giving a 100 per cent.

‘On a small pitch that resembled a ploughed field, we moved the ball quickly.’
