Crawley v Pompey: Gaffer for a day

Well, I’m optimistic – I haven’t seen Pompey lose this season!

Admittedly, work dictates this will be only the fifth match I have attended, but I remain hopeful of another good result.

I was at the encounter between the sides earlier in the season, when Paul Cook’s men won 3-0.

Crawley were probably the worst team I have ever seen at Fratton Park and if we don’t beat them tonight we don’t deserve to go up.

We need to get back to winning ways, we cannot really afford to lose any more games.

Pompey need to start beating the struggling teams and I am very concerned we won’t go up.

Last season the team ran out of steam and players in the end – and we all know what a lottery the play-offs are.

I don’t actually think we are any better than last season, albeit do now possess an ability to grind out results.

Defensively, the team is more sound, but at the other end struggles to score enough goals.

The Blues can break into the top three tonight, but should be significantly better placed than they are and remain a difficult team to predict.

I would like to see Conor Chaplin and Jamal Lowe brought into the side at the Broadfield Stadium to inject a bit of pace and less fear.

Gary Roberts and Kyle Bennett have not brought an awful lot to the side this season. While unquestionably good players, they’ve been burned with fans getting on their backs whenever they take risks.

Chaplin and Lowe will try to make things happen – and have that pace which the side lacks.

So many times we feel the corner has been turned. That must be as frustrating for Cook as it is for fans.
