Dion Donohue is adamant Pompey can still achieve a League One play-off spot despite suffering defeat to Blackburn last night.

Adam Armstrong was at the double for Rovers in their 2-1 victory at Fratton Park.

The Blackburn attacker netted an 87th-minute winner to condemn the Blues to a fourth league loss this year.

As a result, Pompey have dropped to ninth in the table, having been leapfrogged by Plymouth following their 4-2 success over AFC Wimbledon.

Nevertheless, Donohue believes the Blues’ top-six fate still rests in their own hands.

The left-back took plenty of confidence from Kenny Jackett’s outfit’s performance against high-flying Blackburn.

He feels if his side continue to perform in the same manner for the season’s remainder then a play-off place can be achieved.

‘I don’t think we have once thought it’s out of the picture,’ said Donohue.

‘That’s what we said straight after the game in the dressing room.

‘No matter how the table looks, there’s still a long way to go until the end of the season.

‘If we play like we did against Blackburn most weeks, we will come away from games with points.

‘It’s still in our hands if we go in and perform like that week-in-week-out.

‘I still think that we can get there.

‘The result is disappointing but, on the other hand, it gives us confidence to go to other places and pick up points.

‘We’ve got three games coming up now in the space of just over a week.

‘Hopefully we can take as many points as we can and get back into the play-off spots.’
