They inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Division 1 newcomers Harvest Home at Front Lawn on Tuesday.

That followed seven wins and a draw in their last eight home league games of 2009/10.

Keeper Prad Bains kept six clean sheets in those eight matches, and he kept another one as Harvest were given an early taste that life in county football will be tougher than the Mid-Solent League.

Keiran Hammond put Denmead ahead after just two minutes with Callum Trevaskis and Danny Lucas adding further goals.

‘It was a fabulous game,’ said Denmead coach Gavin Hunter.

‘And we’ve still got a lot more of offer once we blow all the cobwebs away.

‘There’s a lot more to come from the team.

‘We had one shot cleared off the line, it could have been four - but 3-0 was a fair reflection of the game.’

Denmead’s team was primarily the same one that finished second behind champions Moneyfields Reserves last season.

The only two new faces against Harvest were striker Trevaskis and right-back Dan Broad.

Trevaskis had previously played for the club in their Meon Valley Sunday League days, while Broad - formerly of Clanfield and Hayling - is the son of Denmead chairman Howard.

Denmead travel to another of the division’s new sides, Clarendon, this weekend before a glamour Portsmouth Senior Cup quarter final against Moneyfields at Front Lawn next Tuesday.

‘We’re looking forward to that one,’ said Hunter. ‘Hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves.’

Harvest will also be playing their HPL home games at Front Lawn this season, and welcome South Wonston Swifts this weekend.

Swifts’ season began with a 6-0 home mauling by Broughton on Wednesday.
