His debut match was a goalless stalemate between Chester and Chesterfield in League Two.

Since then, Haines has regularly refereed games in the fourth tier, League One and the Championship but is still to officiate a Premier League encounter.

Has he taken charge of Pompey previously?

The Tyne & Wear-based official was in the middle for only one of the Blues' games last season.

That came on the penultimate day of the campaign, with Kenny Jackett's troops suffering a 1-0 defeat at already-relegated Bury.

Haines booked Pompey's Nathan Thompson and Dion Donohue, while George Miller was cautioned for the hosts.

During the 2016-17 League Two title-winning campaign, Haines also only took charge of a solitary Blues fixture.

Paul Cook's side delivered a 1-0 victory at Grimsby, with Kal Naismith netting an 86th-minute winner.

Gareth Evans and Enda Stevens were yellow carded for the visitors.

What's his record this season?

In his four games so far this term, Haines hasn't been afraid to put his hand into his pocket.

On the opening day of the campaign, he booked five players during Walsall's 2-1 win over Plymouth, as well as dishing out four yellow cards in Cambridge United's 3-2 victory against Notts County in League Two a week later.

However, in his past two games, Haines has only had to issue a single caution.

Last campaign, he handed out a total of 99 yellow cards and six reds from his 33 matches '“ an average of three cautions per game.

Who are his assistants?

Haines will be assisted by Duncan Street and Ian Dudley at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Lee Freeman is the fourth official.
