Readers of The News declared the left-back the comfortable winner in our recent poll.

Stevens was joined on a five-man shortlist by Adam Webster, Ben Davies, Kyle Bennett and Marc McNulty in contention for the accolade.

Yet those members of the Fratton faithful who took part selected the summer arrival from Aston Villa as their choice.

It caps an impressive period for Stevens, who has gone from strength-to-strength in a Pompey shirt.

The left-back has been an ever-present in Paul Cook’s League Two side this season, providing defensive solidity and an attacking cutting edge.

He played all of Pompey’s five games last month, including being involved in three eye-catching team displays against Ipswich (twice) and Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

Cook has already stated he believes Stevens and Ben Davies are the best full-back pairing in League Two this season.

Now supporters have also recognised the Irishman’s impressively consistent contributions.

Stevens polled 34 per cent of the vote – beating Kyle Bennett to top spot.

Bennett remains a key performer for Cook, yet has been singled out for criticism from some members of the Fratton faithful.

However, the winger remains Pompey’s leading assist-maker, while also recorded his third goal for the club in the 2-2 draw at the Tractor Boys’ Portman Road.

He may have his critics, but recently the ex-Doncaster man has been enjoying his best period for the Blues.

And his popularity has been demonstrated by take 27 per cent of the poll.

It was Adam Webster who claimed third place with 16 per cent, narrowly beating off previous winner Ben Davies.

Webster has enjoyed an impressive campaign in his favoured position at the heart of the Pompey defence.

Having not started the season in the side, he has emerged as one of Cook’s best performers as the campaign has progressed.

As for Davies, the fans’ favourite will undoubtedly figure in the Player of the Season vote down the line.

For the moment, though, he polled 13 per cent in recognition of his January displays.

Finally, Marc McNulty, who scored twice in five matches last month, received 10 per cent of our readers’ votes.
