Who is he?

Madley has been a Football League referee since the 2010-2011 season.

The West Yorkshire-born referee quickly made a name for himself and officiated his maiden Premier League fixture in 2013.

Madley is a FIFA-listed referee and is usually a regular official in the top flight. Today’s game is his first league match outside the Premier League this term.

His last match was Stoke’s 2-2 draw against Leicester on November 4 at the bet365 Stadium.

However, he was forced off during the first half with a thigh injury, with fourth official Jon Moss replacing him.

Has he refereed Pompey before?

Madley last officiated the Blues on February 11, 2012 at Blackpool in the Championship.

The game at Bloomfield Road ended 1-1, with Erik Huseklepp on target for Michael Appleton’s Pompey. No cards were shown that day.

What’s his record this season?

Madley has officiated 10 games this term, with seven of those being Premier League fixtures.

He was the man in the middle for the Community Shield final between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley and dismissed Blues winger Pedro in the 80th minute.

So far this season, Madley has dished out 39 yellow cards and has shown four red cards.
