Globetrotting Blues keen to end long tripwith Shrimps feast

STADIUM: Pompey’s rearranged visit to Morecambe’s Globe Arena, Christie Way, Westgate, Morecambe, LA4 4TB will take place on Tuesday. It is the second farthest away trip of the season.

Blues fans will be housed on the covered east terrace, behind a goal, and in additional seats at the adjacent end of the main stand.

The narrow concourse behind the terrace has separate kiosks for food and drink.

Directions: If you are driving the near 300 miles to Morecambe, exit the M6 at junction 34 and take the A683 towards Lancaster before following signs for Morecambe on to the A589. 

Go straight across two roundabouts, passing a McDonalds outlet on your left.

At the next roundabout – where there is a Toby Carvery called the Shrimp Inn – take the first exit into Westgate Road, signposted West Promenade, Sandylands.

Continue along this road for about a mile and you will come to the Globe Arena on your right.

PARKING: Parking at the stadium is for permit holders only, so it is a case of finding street parking.

If you continue along Westgate, passing the stadium on your right, then on the other side of the railway bridge there is street parking in the side roads.

nearest train station: Trains run from London Euston with a change at Lancaster, however, it is not possible to get back to Portsmouth or London after the match until the next day.

The station is about 25 minutes walk from the ground.

As you come out of the station, turn left down Central Drive past Frankie & Benny’s, a Morrisons superstore and a KFC outlet and you will reach the seafront.

Turn left along the promenade, passing the Ranch House pub on your left and then take the fifth left into Regent Road.

Go straight up Regent Road and continue along into Westgate.

The Globe Arena will be on your left-hand side – just over the railway bridge.

WHERE TO EAT AND DRINK: Just outside the Globe Arena is the Hurley Flyer, a Marston’s pub.

It serves food and has its own car park for which there is a charge of £10 but this cost is refunded against a food purchase.

If you have been to the Shrimps’ ground before and are hoping to use the bar in the nearby Regent Bay Holiday Park, it is believed to be closed at this time of year.

If you turn left out of the stadium entrance, around 10 minutes away on foot – located opposite a Lidl supermarket on Westgate – is the William Mitchell pub, Glentworth Road, LA4 4TG, which serves cask ales, food and also screens Sky Sports.

Nearest to the station – and about a mile-and-a-half from the ground – is a Wetherspoons called the Eric Bartholomew.

It is on Euston Road, LA4 5DD and is named after one of Morecambe’s most famous sons.

One half of the Morecambe & Wise duo, Eric, adopted the name of his native town.

There is a statue of him just around the corner from the pub.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS: Last season’s meeting and limp 3-1 defeat proved to be the last game in charge for manager Andy Awford.

Youngster Conor Chaplin scored his first competitive senior goal but that apart there was little to smile about as Morecambe beat Pompey for the first time.

The Blues’ only other visit to the Globe Arena came in January 2014 when a Jake Jervis double earned a 2-2 draw.
