Gosport Borough aiming to stop rot at FarnboroughÂ
Gosport Borough travel to Farnborough aiming to halt their slide down the Southern League premier division south table.Â
The Privett Park outfit have won just one of their past ten games '“ exiting the FA Cup and FA Trophy in the process.
Borough have slipped to 16th in the league and are only four points above the relegation zone.
Craig McAllister knows an improvement is desperately needed.
If Gosport are to give themselves a chance of winning at Farnborough then the player-manager insists his rearguard must tighten up.Â
Defensive errors proved their undoing again in their 2-1 defeat to Taunton Town on Saturday.Â
And McAllister wants to see a better performance from his rearguard.
He said: '˜I'm not sure Taunton were too good for us but it was little mistakes and sloppiness that cost us again.
'˜It was really important to stay in the game early on which we did after nearly taking the lead.
'˜But their first goal was easy for them and in the first half we just weren't good enough on the ball.
'˜We were playing too deep and were under a lot of pressure. Although it wasn't pretty, we could easily have been 0-0.
'˜Their second goal was not good enough. We were sloppy and their scorer ran past three of our players and it was just too easy for them.
'˜We should have closed him down because that's just the basics of football.
'˜When we were two goals down we suddenly started passing the ball and we got the goal.Â
'˜But why does it take us to be 2-0 down before we suddenly do that? I don't get it.'
Ryan Pennery came off the bench to score his 11th goal of the season against Taunton.Â
The striker caused the visitors' defence plenty of problems as he pressed his claims for a start against Farnborough.
A win will see Borough leapfrog above their Hampshire rivals in the league.
The host, however, will be in confident mood after their impressive 6-2 win at sixth-placed Beaconsfield Town.
Borough will need to keep tabs on dangerman Reggie Young, who bagged a hat-trick at the weekend.
