Borough swooped to bring Blues academy aces Harry Kavanagh, Gerard Storey and Eoin Teggart to Privett Park on temporary deals at the start of the season.

But all returned to Fratton Park when Gosport's season was suspended for at least four weeks because of the nationwide lockdown earlier this month.

The club were boosted by Thursday's news that the Southern League is set to resume on Saturday, December 12 - should coronavirus restrictions allow.

All three of the Pompey prospects had played an important role for Borough with the squad blighted by injuries in the early stages of the season.

And Boro boss Gale is hopeful the trio will return to Privett Park to continue their development.

‘I know the lads actually want to come back and they’ve enjoyed it,' said Gale.

‘Pompey are in contact with us all the time asking if we’ve heard anything (regarding a return).

‘All we’ve told them is everything we know and we’re hoping we can get them back in as soon as we open up to train. I’m hoping they can get straight back in with us.'

While Gosport's squad have been unable to train during the lockdown, the Pompey trio have continued working with the academy set up.

Defender Kavanagh was handed his Blues debut in the EFL Trophy defeat to West Ham under-21s at Fratton Park, with Teggart also featuring.

‘For us, that’s been good that they’re still training and still playing,’ Gale added.

‘It’s an advantage in the fact that we’ve got three players there who will hopefully come back to us who have still been training and playing.'
