Gosport boss Molyneaux accuses Southern League of ‘lack of clarity’ amidst coronavirus fears

Gosport Borough manager Lee Molyneaux admits he was left baffled by the Southern League’s decision to postpone all their fixtures right across the board at the weekend.

Borough were due to travel along the south coast to face Dorchester Town at the Avenue Stadium.

Molyneaux found it difficult to accept when clubs playing above them in the National League were still staging fixtures.

'It was weird not having any football,' said Molyneaux.

'I think the Southern League should have consulted clubs about how well we were prepared and confident of the procedures put in place.

'There was a lack of clarity.

'We were all left wondering why our games were off.

'We did as we were told and followed the rules.

'It is important that we follow recommendations by the authorities.

'If it is about the big crowds gathering I get that, but at the same time we are told it is good to be out in open spaces.

'It is a contradiction and slightly confusing.

Molyneaux expects football will come to a halt right across the board this week.

He recognises that football clubs at local level, like other small businesses, are going to come under extra pressure.

'Clubs are going to have to try and survive,' said Molyneaux.

'Employees still have to be paid, even if there isn't any income coming in.

'It is a well known fact that lots of football clubs live on the edge.

'We are in good hands with our chairman and we are determined to put a business strategy and protocol in place to deal with the situation.

'We will be doing everything that we can.

'All our players are committed to keep coming to training.

'We may have to change some of the ways we approach it.'
