The Hampshire Premier League club have agreed a deal to move in with Wessex Leaguers Hythe & Dibden - 30 miles away from their current Knowle Village ground.

But if Infinity are invited into the Wessex League this summer following any grassroots restructuring of division sizes, they will start 2020/21 at AFC Stoneham’s former HP Arena ground.

‘Hopefully this should work out well,’ said Infinity co-owney Jody Hoare.

‘Our reserves are staying at Knowle Village and we’ll be sharing with Hythe & Dibden.

‘We can set up a link between the clubs this way. They haven’t got a reserve team and they’re charging us next to nothing, so we benefit financially and the lads have a better playing surface to play on.

‘I know it’s an extra 30 miles travelling, but if the lads want to play in the Wessex League that won’t matter - in the Wessex you could be going to the Isle of Wight on a Tuesday, to Shaftesbury, to Hamworthy.

‘The one stipulation Hythe said about our move is that we’re not allowed to sign Sam Floyd from them!’

Floyd used to play for Infinity, but moved to the Waterside last summer after scoring 19 goals for the HPL club in 2018/19.

Hythe’s Clanfield ground will be Infinity’s fourth base since they were founded in the early part of the 21st century.

They started out at King George V fields in Winchester before moving to Tauntons College in Southampton. From there they moved to Knowle Village.

The plan is to then move into a new ground that is being built for them near Wickham as part of a housing development. Work should hopefully start sometime this year.

Hoare, meanwhile, is still hopeful that Infinity could yet be playing in the Wessex in 2020/21 if there is any summer restructuring.

‘There’s gaps in the pyramid,’ he said. ‘There’s a space in the Wessex League where Pewsey Vale pulled out.

‘Last season the FA were going to promote 40 clubs from step 7 based on points per game. When the season finished we were seventh out of those 40.

‘We had already had the ground at Stoneham approved by the Wessex League, so based on that and points per game we should be in pole position.

‘It would make perfect sense. We’d take Pewsey’s place and Moneyfields Reserves, who want to go up, would take ours.’
