Hawks add defender George McLennan in time for massive Bath City FA Cup clash

The 24-year-old left-footed defender has been at Wealdstone and played under Paul Doswell at Sutton United.

The Hawks boss believes he can help strengthen the left side of the defence.

‘For someone of the quality of George to become available is great,’ said Doswell.

‘He will provide competition and cover for both Anthony Straker and Moussa Diarra.

‘George fits the profile of blending older players with the younger ones.

‘We have seven lads between the ages of 18 to 20 in our squad.

‘The arrival of a target man-style of centre-forward is also on the cards in the next couple of weeks.’

Doswell accepts it won't be easy for the Hawks as they bid to reach the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in six years.

On that occasion, they were given a plum draw against Preston North End which was broadcast on BT Sport.

Both the Hawks and Bath City will be keen to put themselves in with a chance of making it through to the next round and a potential date with a Football League club.

The opportunity of drawing a tie against the likes of Sunderland, Ipswich Town, Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth is a massive incentive.

‘Bath's home form last season was exceptional as was our away form,’ added Doswell.

‘It has all the makings of a cracking tie.

‘It is six years since we made the first round and that is too long.

‘We would love to put that right.

‘I am pleased with how we have fared so far this season.

‘We have a brand new squad and our pre-season was badly hit by injuries.

‘To have three wins and a draw is very satisfying.

‘What has pleased me the most is the way the group have blended together.’

Despite Doswell looking to bring in a new striker, he has been delighted with the performances of front pair Tommy Wright and Joe Iaciofano.

The movement and cleverness of both up front has caused opponents plenty of problems.

‘We will go to Bath in a confident mood and feeling that we have every chance,’ said the Hawks boss.

‘That is our focus.

‘Both teams want the chance to get a home draw against a top club on television in the first round. That would be just like winning the lottery.’

Christian Rowe is the only Hawks player ruled out by injury.
