‘I give 110 per cent in everything I do for this club, and I expect that to be replicated’ – Moneyfields boss Glenn Turnbull on his ‘worst’ night as a manager

Having been forced to switch their home tie to Bournemouth Poppies due to the ongoing John Jenkins Stadium development, Moneys were hammered 5-0.

It was the heaviest defeat a Turnbull team had suffered since Moneyfields lost 6-1 at home to Salisbury in a Wessex Premier game in 2015 when he was a caretaker.

Former Dorchester Town forward Neemo Nixon belted a hat-trick for Poppies while Conor Jevon completed Moneys’ misery with an acrobatic bicycle kick late on.

To compound a dismal evening, Moneys coach Paul Barton was sent off for dissent to the referee - the same official that had shown Turnbull a red card against Horndean last season.

Barton, who had to hobble round the pitch on his crutch after being dismissed - he has recently had knee surgery - was reacting to a strong challenge on James Franklyn, who had just come on as a second half sub.

‘Barto being sent off was the only passion we showed all evening,’ stated Turnbull.

‘I’m not worried about losing in the Hampshire Cup, it was the manner of it.

‘For me, there are non-negotiables - I expect people to turn up and try hard, I expect them to encourage their team-mates, I expect them to show a bit of desire and commitment.

‘Out of our 16 last night, I don’t think we got that from more than about three.

‘For some teams at our level, that’s all they’ve got.

‘I give 110 per cent in everything I do for this club, and I expect that to be replicated. If they are playing for nothing or for £200 a week or anything in between, that should be the minimum.

‘When I was playing for the Dog & Duck in the Sunday League with a hangover, I always tried the hardest I could. Then I reflected on what I could have done better.’

Turnbull added: ‘The players should be embarrassed, about the performance and the result.

‘I’m sure Barto will be embarrassed at being sent off.

‘For me, it was the worst I’ve felt after a game.

‘They (Poppies) were first to every ball, they were first to every second ball. They were keyed up for it and we weren’t.

‘Their last goal, it was a good finish - but how can you give a bloke the space to flip it up on the edge of the penalty area and bicycle kick it in?’

Without a fixture this weekend, Moneys traipse back down the M27/A31 next Tuesday to face lower tier New Milton in the Wessex League Cup.

‘We can’t get beat in every cup,’ Turnbull remarked. ‘That’s our best opportunity as a group to win something.

‘People said US were a good side when we reached the Vase semi-finals and the Wessex Cup final, but I’d rather be a **** side and win something.

‘At New Milton we will be going as strong as we possibly can.’
