Gary Wheatcroft’s men trailed 2-0 at half-time at home to Overton, and the situation appeared critical when the visitors were awarded a penalty shortly after half-time.

But keeper Anton Blake - recently signed from Moneyfields - pulled off a great save and the introduction of three subs gave Infinity extra energy.

Former Sholing pair Ben Roles and Josh Carey were brought on, along with wide midfielder Andrew Powell.

None of those three had been involved in Infinity’s season-opening 4-1 victory at Hayling the previous Tuesday.

The pacy Roles kickstarted the recovery on 67 minutes with Wayne Boud levelling four minutes later.

Jack Waters (74) and Danny Phillips (77) extended the lead before Jamie White netted direct from a free-kick for the second time in as many games on 82 minutes.

Phillips had the final say four minutes later.

‘The three subs coming on made a difference,’ said Wheatcroft.

‘Ben Roles is very, very pacy - he loves running at people. There’s nothing to him, but he’s also as strong as an ox.

‘We were shambolic for 60 minutes, we were lazy - I told them afterwards it was a wake-up call.

‘I know we’ve always got goals in us, but we can’t afford to play like that against the big boys or we will get stung.’

Infinity welcome Lyndhurst on Wednesday night and Wheatcroft added: ‘I know we will go out and look like a different team.’

Lyndhurst will have bad memories of last season’s trip to Infinity - they were blitzed 14-0 with Boud, Powell and White all scoring hat-tricks.
