Infinity will feel hard done by if the FA declare the 2019/20 non-league season null and void – but spare a thought for Jersey Bulls too!

Infinity are not the only step 7 club in the English non-league football pyramid hoping and praying their unbeaten league season is declared null and void.

Danny Thompson’s men were seven points clear at the top of the Hampshire Premier League when the season was suspended due to the Covid-19 crisis.

Overall, Infinity’s points per game average is 2.667 - and only eight clubs in the 46 step 7 leagues can beat that!

They are:

Swinton (Sheffield & Hallamshire) 2.88 - 2019/20 league record W17 D1 L0.

Newtown (Devon North & East) 2.85 - 20-0-1.

MSB Woolton (Liverpool Senior) 2.85 - 19-1-1.

Boro Rangers (North Riding League) 2.81 - 20-2-0.

Beeston (West Yorkshire Premier) 2.78 - 17-2-0.

Letchworth Garden City Eagles (Herts Senior) 2.72 - 16-1-1.

Allexton & New Parks (Leics Senior Premier) 2.72 - 19-3-0.

Dringhouses (York Premier) 2.68 – 14-1-1.

Clay Closs (Central Midlands Premier) also have the same 2.667 PPG average as Infinity.

They have only played 15 league games, though - their record is 13-1-1.

All those above mentioned clubs would obviously win automatic promotion to step 6 - in Infinity’s case to the Wessex League Division 1 - were the FA to declare the 2019/20 non-league season to be based on PPG.

The alternative - null and void and every club staying where they are for 2020/21 - would be incredibly hard for all of them to stomach, as it would for clubs at other levels who would otherwise be promoted such as Wessex Leaguers US Portsmouth.

And spare a thought for Jersey Bulls.

Their Combined Counties League season (the same level as Division 1 of the Wessex League) was suspended with them having won all 27 Division 1 games, scoring 99 goals and conceding just seven.

Bulls are currently 20 points clear of second-placed Farnham, and have a game in hand.

No club could feel harder done by if the FA dictate the season is null and void.

Meanwhile, if the FA did decide PPG would be used to determine which clubs won promotion, current Wessex League table-toppers Alresford would go up automatically.

But they are one of only 10 of the current 14 step 5 league leaders that would do so.

In the Western League Premier, current leaders Tavistock wouldn’t even finish in the top two under PPG.

Their PPG average of 2.38 would be overhauled by both third-placed Bradford Town (2.6) and second-placed Plymouth Parkway (2.58).

Bradford - who beat Baffins Milton in the FA Vase back in November - would go up as ‘champions’ while Parkway would be automatically promoted as they would have one of the best four ‘runners-up’ PPG averages.

There would be a similar scenario in the Essex Senior League where current leaders Saffron Walden (2.27) would fail to go up.

Second placed Hashtag United (2.5) would be automatically promoted as ‘champions’ while third-placed Walthamstow (2.42) would accompany them as one of the four best ‘runners-up.’

For those unfamiliar with the story, Hashtag United are based in Tilbury, Essex, and were founded in 2016 by YouTube personality Spencer Owen.

The club originally played exhibition matches against professional football clubs' staff teams, Sunday league teams and non-league teams. Games were filmed and highlights were uploaded to their YouTube channel, where they quickly gained a big online following.

Hashtag subsequently entered the non-league system in 2018–19 season, winning Doivision 1 of the Eastern Counties League at the first attempt.
