The Insider: Green is a talent '“ but many Villa fans don't want him loaned to Portsmouth

  

A loan spell in a lower division with regular football and starting games could be ideal for the lad, but I would also question Villa's long-term goal with these players.

Green is a real talent, so why can't we see such players introduced for the last 15 minutes of Championship games, earning 15 appearances in the season even though each outing is 20-minutes long?

He made his Villa debut in March 2016 in the Premier League against Spurs and is seen as the next one to emerge through the Academy behind Jack Grealish.

Early last season he looked like he was going to make an impact when he cut in from the left and curled a cracking shot into the top corner during a 4-2 victory over Norwich.

However, a few weeks later he sustained a hamstring in training '“ and appeared just once after September 9.

Fast forward to this summer and he was probably one of the brightest players in pre-season.

Admittedly summer friendlies are not always the best gauge for a young player trying to make his mark, but he definitely impressed.

I spoke to him following a friendly with West Ham and the feeling was this is his time to shine at Villa.

The Villa Park ownership mess and chaos over the summer had probably given lads like Andre a bit of hope, an opportunity to impress.

Lo and behind, the new owners arrived and picked the club off the floor, with some of the younger players having to go elsewhere to get their chance.

The loan arrivals of wingers Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie have restricted his first-team opportunities, so Steve Bruce will be loaning him out.

Green, who is right-footed, tends to play off the left and cut inside like an inverted winger, he is also very quick.

He could play as the 10, although I haven't seen him there, but he definitely has ability. The lad's decision-making is also pretty good.

Green's not the finished article, he's still raw, but has enough about him physically to cope. I think he'll do really well at Fratton Park.
