The manager believes Pompey can reach League One’s top six – and are capable of producing the winning run needed to achieve that.

The Blues go in search of back-to-back away league wins for the first time this season as they head to Southend.

Jackett knows his side need to make strides in their results away from Fratton Park.

Pompey currently sit 16th in the away results’ table this season for League One.

Jackett said: ‘We do need to improve.

‘We won last time out away at MK Dons.

‘I felt it was deserved. They had a lot of chances but we had more by the end.

‘It was deserved even if you could’ve said it could’ve gone either way.

‘It showed a lot of heart and spirit but our away record hasn’t been great over the course of the season.

‘It would be nice to win back-to-back on the road – and consistently on the road.’

Last weekend’s success was the Blues’ first win of 2018.

But with other sides at the top struggling for form, Jackett feels his side can achieve things this season.

He added: ‘The play-offs are on for us – 100 per cent.

‘But we’ve got to win on a consistent basis. That’s an obvious thing.

‘We do need a big run coming towards the end of the season.

‘We need the points not to just keep competitive, but to pull people back.

‘I do think there’s a little bit of a confidence (issue) sometimes, or a decision here or there at the right time.

‘There’s goalscorers getting on a good run, too, at the right time.

‘But I do think that we can do it.’
