Jackett's joy after tough Portsmouth period on the road

Kenny Jackett declared himself pleased with the outcome of successive away fixtures as Pompey remain in League One's top three.

The Blues followed up their hard-fought midweek victory at Bristol Rovers with a goalless draw at Doncaster on Saturday.

It could easily have been a comfortable Keepmoat Stadium defeat, such was the hosts' dominance during the opening 45 minutes.

As it was, Pompey dominated a second half which saw Rovers keeper Marko Marosi sent off on 83 minutes for handling outside the area.

And Jackett was delighted at the end of a tough period for his side.

He said: '˜We lost here last year and lost at Bristol Rovers last season as well, so we've got four points out of six and have to be pleased with that.

'˜The first half was Doncaster's, we needed to improve '“ and we did improve in the second period.

'˜We created probably the best three chances of the game, two with Gareth Evans and one with Ronan Curtis and were unlucky not to score.

'˜There were two great saves by the keeper and then he sacrificed himself with a red card.

'˜We went toe-to-toe in the second half and they didn't really create any clear-cut chances in that particular period. While we are always looking to improve, we have to take a point at the end of a tough week on the road.

'˜We dug in in the first half, it's what we do, and that's a big feature of the team and an asset.

'˜We have competitors, we have team spirit and are hard to beat.

'˜But we want to be better than that, though. Wwe want to be constructive through the middle.'

Jackett, though, was disappointed the Blues didn't test stand-in goalkeeper Ben Whiteman more.

He added:  '˜It was disappointing but you have to make sure you don't open up too quickly either because I did feel we flooded forward and needed to be playing through and building up.

'˜You cannot just go route one.'
