But both Danny Kedwell and Sam Magri were on target AGAINST Hawks when the Kent club staged a stunning recovery at Westleigh Park in April 2019.

Lee Bradbury’s side raced into a 3-0 half-time lead in the National League encounter thanks to goals from Alfie Rutherford (2) and Dan McNamara.

Rutherford’s second had come in the 44th minute with McNamara netting 60 seconds later.

Defender McNamara was on loan from Millwall and only played four times for Hawks. The 21-year-old is currently out on loan again, at Scottish Premier League club St Johnstone - playing the full 90 minutes at Celtic last Sunday.

Having conceded twice just before half-time, Ebbsfleet were remarkably level within 12 minutes of the restart.

Kedwell began the recovery in the 46th minute with Michael Cheek further reducing the arrears on 51 minutes.

Six minutes later, Magri levelled matters - one of only two goals he scored in 45 appearances that season.

Within weeks, Magri and Kedwell would both be Hawks players - among a rash of signings by new boss Paul Doswell.

Doswell, meanwhile, is this weekend pitting his wits against one of only three Germans managing in the top six tiers of English football.

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp is obviously the best known of the trio, while Daniel Farke is aiming to guide Norwich into the Premier League for the second time in three seasons.

Down in the National League South, Dennis Kutrieb - the least well-known of the three Germans - is also aiming for promotion.

He is tasked with trying to return Ebbsfleet to the top tier of non-league football after the Kent club were relegated in 2019/20.

Kutrieb is no stranger to success - winning three promotions during his time in the lower levels of German football.

Last season he led Tennis Borussia Berlin to the top of the fifth tier before the season was halted because of coronavirus. It was his second successive promotion at the club, having previously guided VSG Altglienicke out of the Berlin League and into regional football.

He signed virtually a whole new squad prior to the season eventually starting in early October. Of the 14 players who featured in their last game against Tonbridge on November 21, only three - keeper Jordan Holmes, Alfie Egan and Adam Mekki - were at Ebbsfleet last season, and Mekki was on loan from Bromley.

Among the plethora of new faces were strikers Lee Martin and Rakish Bingham who played in the EFL for Exeter City and Doncaster Rovers last season.

Another addition was one-time Pompey trialist Will Wood who was signed from Dagenham & Redbridge.

The former Southampton academy defender had a loan spell at Westleigh Park in 2018/19 during Hawks’ sole season in the National League.
