Moneyfields enjoy benefits of ‘different dimension’ with FA Cup victory over Camberley

The Combined Counties League visitors massed behind the ball and made it difficult for the home side to break them down.

Two soft penalties also kept The Krooners in the game but eventually the quality of the higher division hosts shone through.

Home manager Dave Carter felt it was a job well done in the end.

'We were better in the second half, though not so good in the first,' he remarked.

'It didn't help that we shot ourselves in the foot by giving away two silly penalties.

'Whether they were penalties or not is beside the point - their player shouldn't have been allowed to get into our area in the first place.

'After the break we switched to 4-4-2 and dominated the game.

'In the end it is a good result considering that we found ourselves without a goalkeeper in the morning.'

First-choice No 1 Jake Hallett went down with food poisoning overnight and both other keepers at the club were injured.

It meant that captain and central defender Sam Pearce had to take over between the posts.

He has done the job before but never in such an important game.

As it was, he spent most of the game as a spectator and the only two shots he faced were the two that flew past him from the penalty spot.

'I know that I can rely on Sam but we did miss him a bit out on the pitch,' said Carter.

'We had to reshuffle things a bit but I was pleased with the performance.

'Our new lads who have come in did well.

'George Barker was superb, Kieron Roberts did well when he went on and Ed Saunders did okay after a long lay off.

'It could easily have been six to us because we missed a number of good chances

'We worked in pre-season on having possession, retaining it and being patient to break teams down.

'It offers us a different dimension to our football, getting the ball into the box from out wide.'

Moneyfields made their initial breakthrough on 28 minutes when Barker scored from ten yards after combining superbly with Steve Hutchings inside the area.

The home joy was shortlived, however, as the visitors levelled with a penalty a minute later.

Antonio Dembele was felled as he cut in from the right and Mark Jordan fired his spot-kick straight down the middle.

Moneys restored their lead on 63 minutes, Joe Briggs tucking a low shot under the goalkeeper after Barker had laid the ball back to him.

Camberley were reduced to ten men soon after when James Foster pulled Hutchings back as he looked to go clear.

Despite this. another foul on Dembele in the box allowed the visitors to level the scores a second time from the penalty spot.

In the final 15 minutes Moneyfields finally put the tie to bed.

Hutchings scored a superb goal, turning and firing into the top corner from inside the area, and Roberts sealed matters four minutes from the end.

The traditional after-match meal at Dover Road is sausage and chips served on large trays for players to share.

Covid precautions meant that was ruled out so instead the players, appropriately, were served their food in individual ‘Happy Meal’ boxes.
